New Delhi, August 23, 2001 The Honorable Education Minister for the State, Dr. Narendra Nath launched the Indraprastha University - IBM University Program today. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Indraprastha University and IBM India Limited.
The IBM University Program - a unique strategic initiative between IBM and reputed Universities and Educational institutions to increase the availability of skills on IBM software technologies. The IBM University Program is being launched for the first time in North India with the Indraprastha University, one of the premiere universities in the country affiliated to the State Government of Delhi.
The IBM University Program enables colleges affiliated to the Indraprastha University to incorporate educational programs on IBM software technologies to support the main course curriculum, electives or projects, within the framework of the university syllabus. Under this program, IBM invests in providing licensed versions of cutting edge software like DB2 Universal Database, WebSphere Application Server family and Visual Age for Java, in addition to faculty training and facilitation of courseware development. Under this initiative each year, colleges affiliated to the university will offer 10 projects to the students on IBM software platform.
This program provides an opportunity for Indraprastha University students to gain skills in the IBM software technologies being used extensively by the business, scientific and industrial communities globally. The program gives students ample opportunities to get certified on IBM software technologies that have global recognition and also play a key role in enhancing a student's employment potential. On completion of this program, students would be qualified to take IBM's certification tests and further enhance their value in the global skills marketplace.
The University's faculty at the same time gets an opportunity to enhance the academic process through the effective use of modern computer technology in teaching and research. Under this program, the faculty would also get the opportunity to share their experiences and implement new ideas by becoming part of a global discussion forum of academia.
According to Pawan Sharma, Country Manager, Software Group & Developer Relations, IBM India Limited, "This program will provide an opportunity for students of the University to get a global certification on IBM technologies and increase their employment potential. IBM through such tie-ups aim to significantly augment the resource pool of IBM certified professionals in the country"
